What’s the difference between traditional Thai embroidery and the one I’m using? The techniques I use are western. The difference starts with the use of an embroidery hoop but the way it’s lined is different – you can see the difference from the basic preparation. Here, we use silk woven from the ultra-fine thread inside of the cocoon for lining and we embroider directly onto the piece. For SIRIVANNAVARI BANGKOK, we use a western technique – the embroidery is done from behind. We work while learning what works best for SIRIVANNAVARI BANGKOK. We use 3D embroidery, starting with something basic and expanding into various different materials. It’s not like we’ve abandoned our Thai roots. Instead, we’re making it stronger.”
